Master Planning Study

Background

Mountain View Elementary School resides in a growth area of Albemarle County Public Schools. Facing overpopulation issues, the school system approved a project to construct additional classrooms and expand the cafeteria to accommodate current Mountain View students.  While these additions will help provide needed space for current students, future development requires a long-term vision.  For this reason, ACPS commissioned a facilities Master Planning Study that will outline solutions to meet both short-term and long-term needs. This Master Planning Study will serve as a roadmap to determine the district’s current and future needs.

Scope

The Master Planning Study process will create a housing and student yield analysis, and the Study will provide recommended strategies to address the student population growth in and around Mountain View Elementary School.

The evaluation portion of the Master Planning Study will include a facility condition assessment, an educational quality review, a capacity analysis of surrounding schools, demographic projections within the Mountain View Elementary attendance area, and demographic projections within the entire division.

The Master Planning Study will consider multiple solutions, such as building an addition on to Mountain View Elementary, redistricting elementary schools in the area, building a new elementary school in the area, or a combination of these solutions.
